Alastair Kay, Elite Category Racer and 2008 Brompton World Champion The pared-down design of the un-padded SMP4Bike Composit makes it a stark looking saddle to the uninitiated. Appearances are deceptive though; comfort is inherent in the design it's self. Once aboard, the sit bones make contact with the flexible bridge either side of the central gap. Rather than perching you uncomfortably on soft tissue; the pelvis seems almost locked in place, allowing the rider to pedal freely without unnecessary movement. Paired with a modern chamois, even a perched position on the saddle nose is comfortable; the SMP design is almost unique in relying on the sit-bones for support even at the front of saddle, where racers spend so much of their time. I've ridden and raced one for 4 years over roads of variable quality, and the build quality has allowed 40,000km to be done without problems; the design remains functionally perfect. Mike Veal, Bikedynamics.co.uk, member of SICI the Serotta International Cycling Institute Having spent a bit more time on my SMP Evolution saddle, including a 100 miler last weekend, I am becoming increasingly impressed with it.
